Mark Lazarus

Chairman, NBC Sports Group

Mark Lazarus was named Chairman, NBC Sports Group on May 19, 2011 and oversees the NBC Sports Group’s portfolio of multi-platform assets.

 

The NBC Sports Group consists of an impressive portfolio of broadcast, cable, regional and digital sports assets, and was formed upon the closing of Comcast and General Electric’s joint venture that merged the assets of NBCUniversal and Comcast. The newly-formed NBC Sports Group now consists of NBC Sports & Olympics, Golf Channel, VERSUS, 11 Comcast SportsNets (regional sports networks) and their respective digital assets.

 

As the leader of the NBC Sports Group, Lazarus manages partnerships with many of the most-prestigious properties in sports, including the International Olympic Committee and United States Olympic Committee, the NFL, NHL, PGA TOUR, USGA, PGA of America, Notre Dame, Churchill Downs, MLS and many more. Lazarus was integral in NBCUniversal’s recent acquisition of media rights to four Olympic Games (2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020), its new nine-year NFL agreement and its recent 10-year agreement with the NHL. He also presided over NBC Sports’ production of Super Bowl XLVI, which is the most-watched television program in U.S. history with 111.3 million viewers.

 

Prior to being named Chairman, Lazarus was responsible for all NBC Sports Group cable assets as President, NBC Sports Cable Group. He served as president of Media and Marketing for CSE prior to his roles at the NBC Sports Group and led the agency’s sports and entertainment Media and Marketing divisions.

 

Lazarus was president of Turner Entertainment Group prior to joining CSE. In this capacity, he oversaw all aspects of Turner Entertainment Networks, which included TBS, Turner Network Television (TNT), Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and truTV; as well as, The Turner Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media unit, which includes Cartoon Network, Cartoon Network Studios, Adult Swim and Boomerang.

 

Prior to being named Turner Entertainment Group president, Lazarus served as president of Turner Entertainment Sales and Marketing and president of Turner Sports. As president of Sales and Marketing, he was responsible for all advertising sales of TBS, WTBS (now Peachtree TV), TNT, Cartoon Network and Turner South. In his role as president of Turner Sports, Lazarus led Turner Broadcasting’s acquisition of the cable rights to the NBA, NASCAR, Wimbledon and the British Open, as well as the Internet rights to NASCAR.com and PGA.com.

 

Lazarus was appointed executive vice president of Turner Sports Sales in May 1998, where he was also responsible for Turner’s strategic marketing unit and Global Client Solutions. He joined Turner Broadcasting Sales in 1990 as an account executive in sports and held titles of increasing responsibility. Earlier, he was a network buyer and planner for Backer, Spielvogel, Bates, Inc., and an account executive for NBC Cable.

 

A graduate of Vanderbilt University, Lazarus is on the Board of Governors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and serves on the board of directors for the East Lake Foundation, the PATH Foundation, and Compass Diversified Holdings.
